About Lisa Corona

Mrs. Lisa Corona has been an educator in the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama for 39 years. She is currently the principal of Holy Spirit Preschool/Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, AL. She is also a member of the leadership team of her diocese and serves on the Principals’ Advisory Committee.

Mrs. Corona is a regular attendee at several national educational conferences, such as the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association), CLAS (Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools), and has been a presenter at the NCEA Law Symposium and at the SDE (Staff Development for Educators) Annual Conference.

She also leads retreats and teacher inservice workshops for parishes and schools throughout her diocese as well as other schools across the nation. Lisa is often sought after for her ability to teach, lead, serve, and share her passion for learning. She enjoys the opportunity to meet with and talk to other educators about the privilege we have to work with our precious children.

Mrs. Corona has had an educational article, entitled “The Wish”, published in Kids Life Magazine.

Mrs. Corona and her husband, Sam, live in Birmingham, AL and have two adult children, Samantha, who is a journalist/media relations event planner, and Luke, who is a teacher.

“As an educator with over 15 years of experience in teaching and academic administration, and as the parent of four students who have had the privilege of learning in schools led by Lisa Corona, I can tell you that there is no one in education today that I would rather have than Lisa Corona to lead and inspire the teachers of my children. Mrs. Corona’s workshops for her teachers are wellorganized and they thematically set the tone for the year to come. Her public speeches to students’ parents give the parents a sense of their children’s opportunities for growth and inspire parents to be the leaders in their child’s education. Finally, her frequent visits to classrooms to work with children not only educates them, but shows both teacher and student that Mrs. Corona supports them and embodies the very things that she encourages them to do. I wholeheartedly recommend that you invite this polished, grounded leader to speak to your company or faculty.”

Sarah Wannemuehler, Ed.D. Associate Professor Director of Early Field Experience University of Southern Indiana

“Lisa Corona is a fabulous speaker! She facilitated our 2018 retreat and my teachers loved her. Our retreat was for three days and each day Lisa came energized and eager to work with our group. Lisa is genuine, warm and very entertaining! She made each of us feel appreciated and valued. We greatly enjoyed working with Lisa and we left our retreat excited to return to our students.”

Susan Splendido, Principal Christ Our King-Stella Maris School, Mount Pleasant, SC

“As the principal of a Catholic School surrounded by some of the finest public schools in Alabama, I often feel the need to bring someone to my school and recharge my staff. For this reason, I have enlisted the talent of Lisa Corona. Lisa has been a principal in the Diocese of Birmingham for over 35 years. She has an amazing reputation. I am pleased to share my experiences. Lisa has a way of bringing humor, faith and great teaching practices together to encourage good teachers to become great teachers. On several occasions I have asked Lisa Corona to present at workshops. Lisa presented at a New Year’s Day Retreat. The topic was “Joy”. She had my faculty in the palm of her hands as they realized how they were truly doing the work of God. They left that day with a renewed spirit and continue to “teach as Jesus did”. The following year, she spent the day with us on an overnight retreat. Her message was that of “service”. Both our Pastor and faculty were moved as she bonded our school family through stories, faith, love, and encouragement. Lisa is a gifted speaker and I am pleased that she is pursuing this career.”

Connie Angstadt, Principal, Prince of Peace Catholic School Hoover, AL

“Lisa Corona is a spiritually optimistic educator whose gifts of openness and passion for building relationships are evident in all endeavors. She is energetic, knowledgeable and confident in whatever the challenge or calling. For more than twenty years, Lisa and I have grown in educational circles, shared and matured through participation in retreats, group projects, and professional sessions and supported each other as friends in personal situations as well. Lisa conducted an exceptional two-day professional development training with our faculty and staff on how to develop and implement an effective and rewarding book study with middle school students. Her “team approach” was genuine and personable. It encompassed strategies and activities designed to engage teachers, students and parents as a team. She was motivational and well-received by the group.”

Mrs. Phyllis Rowser Assistant Principal/Lead Teacher Holy Family Catholic Academy Birmingham, Alabama

“Mrs. Corona has a special way of connecting with her audience and truly creating a relationship with them because of the many years of experience she has. Mrs. Corona is a great leader and mentor to the faculty and staff. In twenty years of teaching, I have worked in four other schools with four other principals; all of them very good at their job. Mrs. Corona is the best- she has the gift of communicating with anyone and everyone and capturing their attention.”

Holly Collins Fifth Grade Teacher Holy Spirit School

“I have known Lisa Corona for over 20 years. She was the principal at my children’s elementary school, St. Aloysius Catholic School. When I think of Lisa, I think “home” and “family”. I think of someone who genuinely cared for the kids and families in her school. To her, we were her family. She made sure our children were provided not only the best education but also that they knew they were loved. She is very charismatic and can easily hold any audience with her wit and charm. I believe she possesses a vast wealth of knowledge and experience which she can pass on to educators at any level. In short, Lisa would be a valuable asset to any organization.”

Jena Shourds, Parent McCalla, AL

“Mrs. Corona has been one of the biggest influences as an educator in my life. From elementary school all the way through my doctorate program, I have not had someone be as kind, loving, and compassionate as her. One of the things that still stands out to me today is Mrs. Corona making the effort to come read to us every week, as well as getting to know us personally. She was always an open ear for me and everyone else, and I will always cherish that.”

Dr. Tyler Bunn, DC Birmingham, AL

“I have known Lisa Corona for over 10 years. During her employment at Holy Spirit Catholic School as Principal of the Preschool and Elementary School, she has become a dear, trusted friend. On many occasions, I have relied upon her to handle matters dear to me- spiritual and educational matters related to my church, my children, and my grandchildren’s school. Lisa is inspirational, positive, warm, and inviting with a zest to share her love for learning. Her smile is a pep talk to all of her students or “her babies”, as she calls them. She is dedicated to building confidence in each student while teaching them to value and find strength in the differences of fellow students. Over thirty years as a principal in a private Catholic school setting can only be sustained when the educator loves what she does. Lisa loves what she does and finds joy in the grace of each student’s success. As an administrator, Lisa is a born leader and motivator. She exceeds expectations. In the private school environment, she supervises the challenge of finances with energy and commitment. I am pleased to write this recommendation for Lisa. Her dynamic, contagious love for teaching is making a profound impact on each student’s quest for an education and ultimately our society.”
